When Pilgrims reached the shore, they may not have been sure what to expect, but they knew that it was all on them to figure it out. To pave a path for those who would follow. They used their environment, tools and team to eke out a better life – and they succeeded.
I recently mentioned the “Day One” mindset that kicked in after attending the APTA’s PPS conference years ago and the journey it took me on. And while I may not have worn the Puritan’s capotain, I adopted their pioneering spirit.
You have to go back almost 5 years to see my Mayflower moment when I had connected with Garret Salpeter from NeuFit and realized the potential of the NEUBIE device for the PT industry. But that’s all it was at that time – potential.
For almost a year, I was the first and only physical therapist using the NEUBIE with patients, paving a new, unwalked path to better, faster outcomes. I knew it was a special piece of physical therapy technology that could help break practices out of the 90’s style of traditional care that takes longer and costs more.
While NEUBIE research and professional proof of concepts were still being gathered, I was creating my own mapping and protocols for various patient needs and eking out programs to help systemize processes and train teams.
I am so thankful and have so much gratitude for everyone from the NeuFit team and all my patients who took a chance on a physical therapist from Tampa who just wanted to find a better way for patients to get the care they needed and PTs to get the training and support necessary to provide that care.
That gratitude still powers my day-to-day operations and fuels my personnel management and business development. It showed me the value of the 5 stages of technology adoption and how being disruptive isn’t just innovative, it can be life changing.
By following the innovator path and having hundreds of PTs join me along the early adopter phase, the NEUBIE has helped us all change the lives of thousands of people. And it’s a humbling, incredible thought.
As we reflect on gratitude and giving thanks this holiday season, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you and encouragement to the practice owners all over the U.S. who have taken the leap to add a new technology to their business, often solely because someone they trust said that it was a good idea.
There are few things I love more than seeing those same practices transform practically overnight as clinicians become comfortable with using the NEUBIEs in their programs. As revenue and patient satisfaction grow, the practice owner gets to step out of the day-to-day and add more rocket fuel to the business by learning about more innovative tech to try.
They get to feel the effect of patient evangelists bringing in more and more business as you keep differentiating your practice from the competition who are still stuck in the status quo.
The world isn’t the same since the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Harbor and neither is the PT industry since the NEUBIE arrived. I’m thankful to see more and more patients and practices embrace proven, cutting-edge technology.
