A Real Blueprint for PT Owner Succession

I want to get real with you for a minute.

A lot of you ask me about exits, succession planning in healthcare, or the mythical “what’s next” in this profession. And I get it—when you’ve built something from the ground up, the idea of stepping back or handing the reins to someone else feels heavy. For me, it’s always come down to one thing: legacy.

Most of you either already have—or eventually will—find yourself wondering if selling your physical therapy clinic is the only path forward. Maybe you’ve been approached. Maybe you’ve just felt stuck, unsure of how you’ll ever get a return on all the blood, sweat, and tears you’ve poured into the business.

But I’m here to tell you—there is another way.

That’s why I’m sharing this: As of January 1, 2025, two of our most trusted leaders—Stephanie Brooke, DPT, ATC, and Brock Labelle, DPT—officially joined me as equity partners in CEP Physical Therapy.

This wasn’t just a promotion.

This was a moment over 15 years in the making.

Stephanie has been by my side since 2010. She’s been a constant through the chaos, the growth, and the evolution of CEP. Brock came in and has grown into a true force—a leader that shows up, drives results, and owns his role.

This is what success looks like in a private practice exit strategy.

It’s not a private equity windfall or a retirement buyout with a bow on it.

It’s building a physical therapy clinic, a culture, and a leadership team so strong that you can step back—not out—and watch it grow beyond you.

It’s giving the right people the right opportunity, not because a contract says you should… but because your gut, your heart, and your principles know you must.

Legacy in private practice isn’t built by what you sell. It’s built by what you pass on.

And I believe to my core that the only way to build a lasting legacy in this profession is to elevate the people who’ve supported you all along. To reward loyalty, growth, and ownership with real opportunity—not just praise.

So if you’re an MVP leader or Coach My Clinic member asking yourself how to build something that lasts, start here:

☑️ Invest in your people.

☑️ Create a clear path for them to grow into leadership.

☑️ Make the hard choices that feel right, not just profitable.

This is how we turn good PT clinics into great companies.

This is how we create freedom—not just for ourselves, but for our families and the people we lead.

I’m proud of Stephanie. I’m proud of Brock.

And I’m even prouder that we’ve built a place worth believing in.

Now let’s help you build yours.
