NeuPTtech Clinic Spotlight: Freedom Physical Therapy & Performance
Welcome back to the NeuPTtech Clinic Spotlight series. Today, we head to Dillsburg, PA to interview Dr. Scott Heltzel, DPT, MTC, OCS Cert MDT and Owner of Freedom Physical Therapy & Performance.
Scott and his team have recently opened their doors as they begin down the path of positively affecting as many patients’ lives as possible through physical therapy. In their pursuit of creating successful treatment plans for pain relief, healing and future injury prevention, Freedom Physical Therapy & Performance met the NEUBIE.
<<Freedom Physical Therapy & Performance’s work with the NEUBIE would go on to be featured in an inspirational news report as Scott, his team and the NEUBIE helped a paralyzed high school student walk across the stage for graduation!>>
Tell us about yourself, Scott.
I’ve been an orthopaedic Physical Therapist for 18 years. I graduated from the University of St. Augustine in 2002, received my Certification in Manual Therapy from Dr. Paris in 2004, McKenzie certification in 2007 and OCS in 2008.
Originally, I worked for an outpatient therapy group after graduation, but in 2020 after 18 years, decided that it no longer suited my professional goals and opened my own private practice in Feb, 2021. I live in Dillsburg, PA with my wife and have four wonderful children in 7th grade, 8th grade, 11th grade and a freshman at Liberty University.
Tell us about your practice.
Freedom Physical Therapy & Performance is an orthopedic-based private practice focused on healing and restoration of proper body mechanics with specific focus on hands-on manual therapy techniques, prescriptive exercise programs and use of innovative equipment to maximize patients’ return to prior level of function.
Our mission statement is “At Freedom Physical Therapy & Performance, we strive to achieve the greatest outcomes with as many patients as possible, using highly skilled hands-on treatments with innovative technology, delivered by motivated and patient-centered clinicians to enhance your quality of life and promote a thriving community.”
How did you first hear about the NEUBIE?
I listened to “The Secrets of the Top 10%” Podcast” with Brian Gallagher in late 2019. My initial impression was one of doubt as I had used multiple forms of e-stim over the years. The doubt began to dissipate as I spoke with Jason Waz at NeuPTtech and received initial information on the benefits of the NEUBIE.
What convinced you to add it to your practice?
NeuPTtech’s in-person training in Tampa, FL in 2020 was powerful and highlighted the multiple uses of the NEUBIE including pain relief, neuromuscular reeducation and strengthening. The use of the master reset to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system was a game changer.
What were your initial expectations with the device?
I assumed it would add an element of innovation and marketing to the clinic, as well as add another tool to rehabilitate patients more thoroughly and quickly.
What is your experience working with Jason Waz and his team at NeuPTtech?
Jason and the NeuPTtech team have been fantastic. They have always been available and responsive to questions, as well as thorough with their online NEUBIE training which has been beneficial in learning, duplicating and applying the system to our patient caseload.
What results did you experience with the NEUBIE?
The results have been great in the first 6 months, both in clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. I am a manual-based therapist so the NEUBIE adds a neurological element to our treatments that we were previously unable to provide.
What has been the most surprising element of using the NEUBIE so far?
A patient with six years of B UE and LE paresthesia, (who had no results from treatments with multiple other therapists, chiropractors, and physicians) experienced full resolution of symptoms after two months of therapy, with a significant improvement after six visits on the NEUBIE!
How have your patients reacted to using the NEUBIE?
Most patients love the results though few love the sensation while performing exercises on the NEUBIE. The majority of patients are happy to push past the initial discomfort, with the understanding that the ability to tolerate a high intensity is the key to success.
What is your message to PTs who are on the fence with the NEUBIE?
Consider the NEUBIE as a potential addition to the specialties already present in your clinic. Speak with someone at NeuPTtech, do some research, and above all, try the NEUBIE. The results speak for themselves!
