The NeuPTtech Clinic Spotlight series is back to interview Dr. Logan Cooper, owner of OMT Specialists in Germantown, Maryland. We learn how the NEUBIE device has helped his patients feel good, move better and perform their best!
Tell us about yourself, Logan.
Alongside being the owner and founder of OMT Specialists, I’m also the Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan.
What started as a criminology and criminal justice degree at College Park MD led to a doctorate at the Maryland PT school which was a part of the med school.
At nearly 40 years old, I’ve recently remarried with a beautiful blended family of 6 kids. When I’m not with the family or serving patients, you can find me rock climbing or on my way to rock climbing!
Tell us about your practice.
OMT Specialists (short for Orthopedic Manual Therapy) opened 8 years ago and has been serving the community of Germantown, MD ever since as a manual therapy clinic. We feature primarily one-on-one patient to clinician treatments; most of our therapists are trained in an osteopathic approach. Our patient population is mostly made of people suffering from long-term back or neck pain.
How did you first hear about the NEUBIE?
The NEUBIE came up in a conversation with a colleague at Michigan State. I was interested right away.
What convinced you to add it to your practice?
I experienced it on myself.
I’m an early adopter in general, so I’m always looking for something that can change the game and help my patients a lot. When I find it, I jump in instantly!
I used it on my shoulder and felt it working instantly. I was sold.
What were your initial expectations with the device?
I was definitely open minded and curious about what it could do. I liked focusing on the input to the body. When I was trained, the focus was on output and I felt like this created a full 360 degree system to treat my patients to feel their best.
What is your experience working with Jason Waz and his team at NeuPTtech?
It has been great! With NeuPTtech and Jason, I’ve felt super supported along the way and have gotten a lot of great NEUBIE education. I’ve never felt alone throughout the learning process, and that has helped a lot.
What results did you experience with the NEUBIE?
In terms of unique results, I think it’s incredible how the NEUBIE can help patients with migraines.
Our patients with daily chronic migraine pain have been told told to “live with it.” Instead of having to lie in a dark room and hope it goes away, our patients can go through one session of manual therapy and the NEUBIE and it goes away. They don’t even have to add medication, and they always feel better when they leave.
Migraines can be so debilitating for patients, causing them to withdraw from the things they love and the activities they want to be doing – and with the NEUBIE, I can fix that. It’s amazing!
What has been the most surprising element of using the NEUBIE so far?
I love the influence and ability to help people quickly. Most of my patients have been in pain for 15-20 YEARS – a very long time! The most surprising thing with the NEUBIE is how quickly we can change their life and transform a lifetime of feelings in just one hour.
How have your patients reacted to using the NEUBIE?
They love it! Some are apprehensive at first, of course, but they trust me so then they trust the NEUBIE.
When you are in pain for so long, your brain changes and you tolerate pain differently. We are able to ease them into the NEUBIE and, as their tolerance increases, we can keep them on the path to feeling better.
What is your message to PTs who are on the fence with the NEUBIE?
It’s simple: Try it on yourself and just experience the results.
I am not a modalities person. I made my career over the last 16 years with my hands, and consider myself a manual therapist. Nevertheless, this is one modality that I use every single day when treating patients and trust it to create a positive outcome.
