Unleashing the Power of Technology: A PT's Journey with NEUBIE and HRV

Jason Waz, Founder & CEO of NEUPTtech, recently shared his story in an interview with Lisa Chase from Back2Normal PT on her new “Rehab Links: Secrets to Success'' podcast.

In this informative podcast, Jason discusses his background as a PT clinic owner in Tampa, FL, the founding of his second business (NeuPTtech) and how utilizing cutting-edge physical therapy technology made a massive difference for his private practice and led him on a mission to bring these benefits to physical therapists all over the U.S.

From Overwhelmed to Thriving: How Tech Transforms PT Clinics

Sometimes, we learn the hard way that we can’t replicate ourselves and need a different solution to expand our business. Working as a PT for 27 years, in large part with high-profile athletes, Jason has extensive industry experience. He recalled some of the problems he encountered while running his own clinic, primarily issues related to staffing and expanding client care.

It was very difficult to scale his team of highly-trained physical therapists while his patients still preferred to see him because of his many years of experience. Jason felt overwhelmed by his ever-increasing patient load, partnered with the daily demands of running a business, not to mention growing that business, which we all recognize as a common story for many PT clinic owners.

The first breakthrough happened when Jason sought a little more help with business mentoring and hired a business coach specializing in physical therapists and clinic owners. His work with Brian Gallagher of MEG Business helped him realize he was spending more time working in his business rather than on his business.

Introducing the NEUBIE: Next-Gen Treatment for Optimal Health

To solve this problem, Jason researched technology that could improve patient results and could be easily integrated into his practice. In 2017, he discovered the NEUBIE device and its Master Reset program to help retrain the autonomic nervous system with an innovative new form of electrical stimulation.

Jason commented on the remarkable results of the NEUBIE:

“Within one 20 minute session, you should be sleeping better. You should be having less brain fog. You should be arguing with your spouse less for no reason…You're going to be able to think more clearly.”

The NEUBIE helped his staff treat patients from a neurological level and helped them make significant strides towards optimal health. With the NEUBIE, his PTs could assess and treat people based on the capacity of their nervous system. Rather than guessing at a treatment plan, PTs could target the dysfunction with 100% accuracy and tailor the treatment to each individual’s limitations and goals.

And that’s when his patients began telling others about the NEUBIE, too.

Jason witnessed significant growth after bringing the new technology into the clinic:

“The first quarter of adding the NEUBIE, I looked at Q1 of 2018 versus Q1 of 2017, and my number of referrals and visits had doubled.”

The increase in revenue and expansion to new locations led Jason's practice to be recognized as one of the fastest-growing businesses in the University of Florida alumni community.

Adding HRV for Data-Driven Physical Therapy Results

Building upon the success of the NEUBIE, Jason delved into the realm of heart rate variability (HRV) for physical therapy. Jason started tracking the HRV of patients wearing wearable devices, like the Aura Ring or FitBit.

“For the next three days after our patients did a NEUBIE treatment, a few of them would say, ‘Hey, look at my aura ring readings. You kicked my butt on the NEUBIE… my HRV reading was like an exponential rise for the next two to three days after the session.’”

This was good news, because high heart rate variability generally means a person is more healthy. But it also meant the success of NEUBIE treatments was no longer just anecdotal, it could now be measured. Jason and his clinicians now use HRV as a cornerstone diagnostic tool. He’s discovered the additional technology has helped propel his PT practice forward.
