NeuPTtech Clinic Spotlight: Virginian Rehabilitation and Wellness, Inc.

Welcome back to NeuPTtech’s Clinic Spotlight series.

As more and more physical therapy clinics bring the NEUBIE into their practice, we’re checking in and seeing how the investment in their patients and their business is going. The goal is to examine the overall impact of the NEUBIE so that other physical therapy owners can hear firsthand from their peers how leveraging this innovative physical therapy technology can quickly advance their patient outcomes and improve their cash-based revenues.

Today, we shine the spotlight on Virginian Rehabilitation and Wellness, Inc. in Fairfax, VA where therapy is “guided by research, perfected with experience and delivered with compassion.” We interviewed Cathy Renkiewicz, PT, DPT, GCS, CEEAA and Rehab Director, to learn more about her practice’s journey with the NEUBIE, including what results the business and their patients have experienced.

Tell us about yourself, Cathy.

I am a “seasoned” PT who has experience in pretty much every setting, except pediatrics. I developed the outpatient neuro practice here under the auspices of a bigger company, and we then broke from that company into our own practice about a year ago. I love innovation. That’s what eventually led me to the NEUBIE.

Tell us about your practice.

We are a not-for-profit practice that specializes in treating the geriatric population, focusing on older adults and those with neurological conditions, especially PD. We also have a contract with a skilled nursing facility to provide therapy. We now have two outpatient offices, having just opened our second office last month! In the second office, we are expanding more into pediatrics. We also have several CLTs (lymphedema specialists) and pelvic floor therapists. We employ PTs, PTAs, OTs and STs, and wellness staff.

How did you first hear about the NEUBIE?

I was listening to an interview by Brian Gallagher, Founder of MEG Business, on the Physical Therapy Private Practice: Secrets of the Top 10% podcast. He was chatting with Jason Waz from NeuPTtech about the NEUBIE, probably about a year and a half ago.

What convinced you to add it to your practice?

After some investigation on my own, I had a conversation with Jason about the NEUBIE. He recommended that I talk to another therapist who had integrated it into her practice, and it just happened that I had met this therapist at PPS the prior year and consulted with her on something else (small world!) and really respected her opinion. I was impressed by her endorsement of the technology and the variety of clients she had success with using it. We quickly started the NEUBIE training series with NeuPTtech and ordered our first NEUBIE after just the second of the weekly sessions.

What were your initial expectations with the device?

First of all, we treat a different population than most clinics so I wasn’t sure how the older clients would tolerate the treatments and what success we might have. To that end, my expectations were maybe lower than some (but high enough to invest in the technology!) I also thought it would be more difficult to get the staff engaged and using it properly, but they were able to use it with clients very quickly and were very enthusiastic about the results.

What is your experience working with Jason Waz and his team at NeuPTtech?

Awesome. Jason and his team are readily available to help with strategies and clinical questions, and the NEUBIE training series was very helpful.

What results did you experience with the NEUBIE?

Luckily, the NEUBIE performs well for older clientele as well. Earlier on, one particular patient had surgery and came in for routine outpatient therapy. After the first treatment with the NEUBIE, she contacted me to say that she “ditched her cane!” We’ve been especially pleased with the results with clients with MS and folks with neuropathies.

What has been the most surprising element of using the NEUBIE so far?

I certainly was surprised by the overall ease of use and tolerance of the older adults with the treatments. This made a big difference for our mission to provide unparalleled therapy experience to our patients.

How have your patients reacted to using the NEUBIE?

Our patients have reacted very positively to the NEUBIE. We are now using it in some way on about 75% of our outpatients, several of which are physicians.

What is your message to PTs who are on the fence with the NEUBIE?

Investigate thoroughly, look at the science behind it, and talk to other clinics who are using it with the patient population that you see. Be open to the technology. One of the questions I have had from other clinicians is, “Where are the research studies on the device?” With preliminary NEUBIE research and ROI available, and more to come over time, it’s a safe device to use, and the results speak for themselves.

Thank you Cathy and Virginian Rehabilitation and Wellness for walking us through your experience with the NEUBIE. To read more case studies around the NEUBIE and receive a free NEUBIE ROI assessment for your practice – contact NeuPTtech today to learn more!

Jason Waz
Jason Waz has always been a pioneer in the use of technology in Physical Therapy. It's what led him to found his company, NeuPT Technologies with his mission to bring the field of PT into the next generation through science, research and innovation. The NEUBIE device is the flagship product that was the inspiration for the company. As a “blue ocean” product, it has untapped potential in the PT marketplace. The positive effects the electrical stimulation device has had on every patient it has touched has paved a path for innovation awards in the near future and incredible patient outcomes in the meantime.  From a personal business growth standpoint, when Jason added this technology to his business, it increased revenue to record levels every single month with an improvement of over 56% compared to the prior 5 year average. Additionally, cash pay increased more than 200% over the same time period. This same growth has been proven to be achievable by any practice that adopts this technology.
