The Future of Physical Therapy: Optimal Health
Since 2006, our goal has been simple – to put the care back in healthcare.
This began with Jason Waz’s private practice, Competitive Edge Performance, where he was determined to build an environment that left a positive impact on his patients. Through his relentless research, testing and developing emerging technologies, CEP (and eventually NeuPTtech) have become pioneers in bringing technology like the NEUBIE to the Physical Therapy industry.
Now we are bringing the model for the future of physical therapy offices and making it available to private practice owners everywhere. All it takes is a caring atmosphere, attention to detail, personalized care with open minded clinicians and the most innovative technology on the market.
The search for optimal health begins here.
What are “Optimal Health Services” in Physical Therapy?
We like to think of it in terms of car insurance. With car insurance you’re only covered if something bad happens. Insurance helps you get back to a baseline.
Nevertheless, we still pay money out of pocket to optimize the performance of our car with oil changes, new tires, upgraded stereo, etc. It’s all because we want our car to look and perform well for as long as possible.
Optimal Health or cash-based physical therapy services are here for patients who want to improve areas of their health rather than solve for an injury. The goal is typically to improve immune function, enhance sleep performance and mood, decrease recovery times, build strength, etc.
It’s proactive care rather than reactive care.
The Clinic of the Future is Built Upon Optimal Health Services
The physical therapy practice of the future utilizes the most innovative technology in the profession to help patients recover in a cost and time-efficient manner while improving their stress levels, energy and mood.
Here are a few of the services we recommend:
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Assessment – MSKUS
For patients suffering from a nagging injury, properly trained therapists can do a diagnostic ultrasound in the clinic as a screening tool to see what is going on.This imaging procedure shows muscles, joints and more to help identify potential tears, strains, sprains or any soft tissue issues. This is a non-invasive and cost-effective way to evaluate injuries and determine the structural cause.
“MSKUS is a great tool that can act as a starting point or determine the need for referring out. As an added bonus, it levels the playing field a little bit with traditional referring physicians. We’re now referring to them as well instead of always just asking for referrals.”

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Assessment
This non-invasive, five-minute test uses EKG clips on the patients wrists to measure heart electrical activity. It can give us a snap shot of the patient’s biological age, stress response and how healthy or charged their biological batteries are, making it widely accepted as the way to determine how healthy a patient’s nervous system is.
Most people with illnesses, diseases, injuries or stress are stuck in a perpetual state of the “fight or flight” side of their autonomic nervous system. This affects healing, immune function and sleep. With this information, your clinicians can put together a plan to help reverse the unhealthy tendencies of the patient’s nervous system.
“The Happy Zap” – Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy
If the HRV system can be thought of as a device that monitors your batteries, this device recharges them. PEMF is a recharge system where patients lay on a contoured mat for 30 minutes of relaxation in a spa-like atmosphere as their body cells are charged and brought out of stress and into a “rest and reset” state. We often see dramatic results after just one 30 minute session.
The NEUBIE Device
First introduced to the physical therapy industry by Competitive Edge Performance in 2017, the NEUBIE remains the biggest tech breakthrough in the history of the profession. This neuro-bio-electric stimulator machine optimizes a patient’s neurological functions to tap into the healing powers and physical abilities that are lying dormant in patients while also decreasing recovery time significantly.
Patient Safety
These days, cleanliness is everything. Your practice should always look its best while also serving as a safe environment for its patients. We recommend Aerus, an air filtration system with ActivePure technology, that uses an ionization process to destroy 99% of contaminants in the air and hard surfaces. This includes the COVID-19 virus.
